主の昇天

（マタイ28.16-20）

皆さん、今日私達は主のご昇天を祝います。使徒言行録によると、復活したイエス様は40日間にわたって弟子達の前に姿を現した後、天に召し上げられました。そのようなことから、主の昇天の祭日は復活祭後40日目の復活節第6木曜日に祝われることになりました。ただし、日本では日曜日(復活節第7主日)に移して祝われています。

今日の福音は「昇天」です。イエス様はご昇天に先立って弟子達に命じられました。「それゆえ、あなたがたは行って、あらゆる国の人々を弟子としなさい。」弟子とは、イエス様を罪からの救い主と信じ、イエス様に従い、イエス様のように歩む者のことです。勿論、人々をイエス様の弟子とすることには、イエス様の救いへ導くことが含まれています。ですがイエス様が求めたことは、人々をイエス様の救いに導くことがゴールではなく、イエス様のように歩む弟子とすることがゴールであったのではないでしょうか。

イエス様は弟子達が見ている前で、昇天され、「神の世界」に移っていかれました。それまでと同じようにイエス様と出会うことはできなくなりましたが、弟子達は「信仰の目」でいつもイエス様を見ながら、迫害にも耐えて、勇敢にイエス様に命じられた使命を果たしたのだと思います。

イエス様は繰り返し弟子達に「信じなさい」と諭されましたが、この御言葉は私達にも問いかけています。いつまでもイエス様の助けを待ち続ける姿であってはいけません。「ガリラヤ人よ、なぜ天を見つめて立っているのか」。イエス様に慰められることを求めて、この世での仕事から逃げてはいけません。私達も弟子達のように、キリスト者としての使命を果たす為に、祈りと共に行動して、「信仰の目」で常にイエス様と向き合って生きていきましょう。

今日のアレルヤ唱をもう一度味わってみてください。イエス様は弟子達に言われました。「全世界に行き、全ての人をわたしの弟子にしなさい。私は世の終わりまでいつもあなたがたと共にいる。」皆さんの教会はイエス様がお作りになりました。イエス様は私達と共にいてくださいます。もう一度皆さんの「信仰の目」がちゃんとイエス様に向いていることを確認して頂きたいと思います。

ところで、5月16日、私はメルボルンに到着しました。そして、新しい生活が始まりました。オーストラリアは寒いです。これから冬に向かいます。毎日英語で過ごすことになります。私は日本で生活を始めた頃の自分を思い出しながら、ワクワクしながら生活しています。これから大変な事がたくさんあると思いますが、神様のお導きを信じ、努力をして乗り越えていきたいと思います。

今日の「昇天祭」をきっかけに、私達の日常がイエス様に守られ、祝福されていることを感謝しましょう。

THE ASCENSION

(Mat.16-20)

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. Today we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord. According to the Acts of the Apostles, the risen Jesus appeared to his disciples for 40 days before being taken up into heaven. As such, the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated on the sixth Thursday of Easter, 40 days after Easter. However, in Japan, it is celebrated on Sunday (the seventh Sunday of Easter).

Today's Gospel is about the Ascension. Prior to his Ascension, Jesus commanded his disciples. “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” A disciple is anyone who believes in Jesus as Saviour from sin, follows Him and walks like Him. Of course, making people Jesus' disciples includes leading them to His salvation. What Jesus wanted was not the goal of leading people to His salvation, but to make them disciples who walk like Him. Jesus ascended into Heaven in front of His disciples. Although they could no longer encounter Jesus in the same way as before, the disciples always looked at Him with the “eyes of faith” and bravely fulfilled the mission he had commanded them to do, even enduring persecution.

Jesus repeatedly admonished the disciples to “believe”, and this is a word that is also a question for us. We must not be in a state of perpetual waiting for Jesus' help. “O Galileans, why do you stand staring at heaven?” We must not run away from our work in this world, seeking to be comforted by Jesus. Let us, like the disciples, live our lives always facing Jesus with the 'eyes of faith', acting with prayer to fulfil our mission as Christians.

My dear brothers and sisters, I would like to invite you to reflect on today's Alleluia Chant. Jesus said to his disciples. “Go to the world and make all people my disciples. I will be with you always, even to the end of the world.” Our church was created by Jesus. And Jesus always with us. I want you to make sure that your “eyes of faith” are fixed on Jesus once again.

By the way, on 16th May I arrived in Melbourne. From that day onwards, my new life began. Australia is heading into winter. From now on, I will be spending every day practising English, but I am still excited about my life. I know there will be many hardships ahead, but I will trust in God's guidance and make an effort to overcome them.

With today's Ascension Day, let us give thanks that our daily life is protected and blessed by Jesus our God
