 神の御言葉を聞き、神の御言葉と共に生きる

マタイ13.1-9

皆さん、マタイによる福音書１３章には、沢山の例え話が多く記されています。今日の福音書の中でイエス様が最初に語られたのは、種まきの例え話です。ある人が蒔いた４つの種は様々な形で蒔かれた「福音の種」のことで、その種から成長した木は私達の信仰生活のあり様を指し示しているように思います。

第１の種は、道端に落ち、鳥が食べてしまいました。道端と言うのは、人やロバなどに踏み固められ、硬くて根を張る余地がありません。ちょうど、心が硬くなっていて、せっかく福音を聞いても受け入れない人の様です。

第２の種は、石だらけの地に落ち、すぐに芽を出しましたが、日が昇るとすぐに焼けて、枯れてしまいました。熱しやすく冷めやすい人のことかもしれません。

第３の種は茨の茂みに落ち、茨にふさがれてしまいました。茨とは、誘惑のことだと思います。人間は様々な誘惑に負けてしまいます。「お金」は、お金持ちにとっても貧乏人にとっても、大きな誘惑です。信仰を持っていても、なかなかこの誘惑から自由になることができないのが実情です。

第４の種は、良い地に落ち、30倍、60倍、100倍の実を結びます。これは「御言葉を聴いて悟る人」です。御言葉を聞いて悟るとは、その言葉が命の言葉としてしっかりと心の中に宿るということではないでしょうか。その人の内で生きる力、また自分だけではなく、人の支えとなるということです。

御言葉は自分の生き方を変える力をもっています。今まで聞き過ごしていた、または読み過ごしていた御言葉が、聖霊の働きによって悟ることができるようになるのです。私達の内に蒔かれた種である御言葉が聖霊によって芽を出し、成長して大きな木になる様に祈り努力しましょう。

ところで、日本の夏はいかがですか。日本は連日災害級の暑さが続いているとニュースで知りました。オーストラリアはずいぶん寒くなってきましたが、おかげさまで私は元気です。冬休みの間、私は神学生達とシドニー旅行やゼミの活動にも参加しました。どのテーマもとても興味深いものでした。一つのテーマは「ラウダート・シ」についてでした。このテーマでは、気候変動は自然に起こるが、地球温暖化は主に人間の活動によって引き起こされているということでした。教皇フランシスコは、環境を大切にする道義的責任を果たすよう私達に呼びかけています。このテーマは日々の生活を通して地球を大切にしなければならないことを思い出させてくれました。環境を守るということは、これまでの資源を最大限に使って幸せを求めるのではなく、自然保護のために我慢する、そして余分な物を手放すことも必要なのかもしれません。

日本は暑くなって大変だと思いますができるだけ、祈り、神の言葉を読み、黙想し、ミサに参加して欲しいと思います。神の御言葉がいつもどんな時にも、皆さんと共にありますように。皆さんの信仰の種を大事に育ててください。皆さんどうぞお元気で。

Mat 13.1-9

My dear brothers and sisters. There are many parables in the Gospel of Matthew. One of the parables that Jesus tells in today's Gospel is the parable of the sower. The seeds sown are “seeds of the gospel” sown in various forms. The tree that grows from the sown seeds seems to indicate what our life of faith should look like.

Some seeds fell by the roadside and were eaten by birds. We know that roadsides are trampled by people, and animals, so they become hard and the seeds have no place to take root. This is just like a person who has a hard heart and does not accept the gospel despite hearing it.

Some seeds fall on rocky ground and sprout immediately because the soil is thin. But as soon as the sun rises, the seed burns and withers because it has no roots. This may describe the type of person who is easily swayed by various situations.

Some seeds fell on thorny bushes and were blocked by thorns. The thorns are temptations. People are tempted by many things, including money. Money is a great temptation for everyone including the rich and the poor. Even if we have faith, it is not easy to be free from this temptation.

The Word of God has the power to change our lives. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, we will be able to understand and live out the Word of God that we hear. Let us pray through the Holy Spirit that the seeds of God's Word sown in us will sprout, grow and bear fruit in our lives every day.

By the way, how was the summer in Japan? I learned from the news that Japan is experiencing extreme heat every day. The weather is getting colder in Australia, but through your support and prayers, I am doing well. During the winter holidays, I traveled to Sydney with seminary students and participated in seminar activities. All the themes were exciting and relevant. One of the themes was “Laudato Si”. In this theme, it was said that climate change occurs naturally, but global warming is mainly caused by human activities. Pope Francis asked us to fulfill our moral responsibility to care for the environment. This theme reminds us all to take care of the earth through our daily lives.

I know it is hot in Japan, but I would like you to pray, read God's word, meditate, and attend mass as much as possible. May the Word of God be with you at all times. Nurture the seed of your faith carefully. I hope everyone is doing well.
