 全ては神様のもの

マタイ21.33-43

皆さん、今日の福音は、先週の「二人の息子」の例えに続いて語られた例えです。この例え話にはイエス様が示された次の人物が登場します。それは、一人の主人、農夫達、しもべ達、そして息子です。

実りの季節になったので、主人はしもべ達に収穫を受け取るために畑に送りました。しかし、雇人達は主人が遣わしたしもべ達を全て殺してしまいます。全ての収穫は自分たちのものだ、と主張したのです。次に、雇人達は主人が遣わした息子までも殺してしまいました。

これは、農夫達の残虐なふるまいが強調されて描かれています。農夫達の非道さは当時の外国の支配下にあったガリラヤ地方で外国の地主の元で搾取されながら、貧しい生活に耐えていた農民の辛さを物語っているのかもしれません。そしてこの農民達の行動は、イエス様を十字架の死に追いやった律法学者、長老、祭司達の中にも見ることができると思います。

ここに出てくる農民達も主人に雇われていますが、私達の人生も　この世の全てのものも、結局は神様から借りてるだけのものであるということを思い起こさなければならないと思います。結局私達は全て神様から借りてるわけで、それを自分のものだと思うところに、私達の罪が生じてくるのかもしれません。

全ての物を借りてるからこそ、自分に与えられてる時間も、エネルギーも、人間関係も大切に謙虚に生きなければなりません。粗末にしてはいけないのです。自分のものだから大切にするのではなく神様のものだから大切にするのです。

ところで先週の土曜日、神言修道会の神学院でミッション・デイの活動がありました。この活動のテーマは、「あなたの光は他の人の前で輝かなければならない」でした。中国人、フィリピン人、ベトナム人、インドネシア人、オーストラリア人がこの活動に参加しました。私はモナシュ大学で一緒に勉強している一人のイラン人を誘いました。それぞれの宗教は違っても、神学院での活動に参加してくれたことが大事だと思いました。

このイベントはパラマタのヴィンセント・ロン・グエン司教様のセミナーから始まりました。この活動は、若い人達が神学院に行き、司祭になるために、召命を促進することも目的としています。神権への召命への招きに気づいた人は洗礼へと導かれます。ですが洗礼を受けることだけが神様と繋がっているわけではありません。何故ならば、誰の心にもそれぞれに信じる神様の存在はあるからです。私達の職業が何であれ、私達は神様が私達に託された仕事に責任を負わなければならないと思います。全てのものは神様のものだからです。

皆さん、メルボルンは春の季節ですが日本は秋に入り、だいぶ涼しくなってくるころだと思います。今週もお元気にお過ごしください。

EVERYTHING BELONGS TO THE LORD OUR GOD　 

My dear brothers and sisters, today's Gospel is a parable that continues last week's parable of “a father's request for two sons to go work in his vineyard”. Interestingly, in today's Gospel, Jesus presents us with the following 4 classes of people: the landowner, the tenants, the servants, and the landowner’s son.

As the harvest season approached, the landowner sent his servants to the fields to gather the crops. However, the tenants killed all the servants sent by the master. They claimed that the entire harvest belonged to them. Furthermore, the tenants even killed the landowner's son, when he was sent by his father.

This story highlights the cruel behavior of the tenants. The inhumanity of the tenants may be a testament to the cruelty of the peasants who lived a life of poverty while being exploited by foreign landowners in the Galilee region, which was then under foreign rule. I believe the actions of the tenants can also be seen in the scribes, elders, and chief priests who forced Jesus to die on the cross.

The tenants in today's gospel story were also employed by their landowner, but I believe we should remember that ultimately our lives and everything in this world are just things we borrow from God. Everything in this world belongs to God and is only entrusted to us to manage. Therefore, we are invited to always live with dignity and respect for one another. Don't be rude. We must respect each other because everything we have today belongs to God.

By the way, last Saturday there was a mission day activity at Divine Word Seminary, Box Hill. The theme was “Your light must shine before others.” Many Chinese, Filipinos, Vietnamese, Indonesians, and Australians participated in this activity. I also invited one Iranian who studied with me at Monash College. Interestingly, he is a Muslim. Although different religions, I think it is important for him to participate in the activities at our seminary.

The event started with a seminar by Bishop Vincent Long Nguyen of Parramatta, and a response from Rev Prof Dorothy Lee (a female Anglican Priest). The event aimed to sensitize all parties on the importance of caring for the earth, and the importance of being a light for all life in the world. Also, to increase the call of the younger generation to go to seminary and become priests. I believe that whatever our profession, we must be responsible for the work that God has entrusted to us. Because everything belongs to God.
