互いに思いやり助け合う

マルコ 1.40-45

今日の福音は先週に引き続きイエス様が一人の重い皮膚病患者を清めたことについて語られています。当時は、重い皮膚病になると、家族や社会から疎外されました。感染することを恐れることは当然でしたが、モーセの律法で、重い皮膚病は汚れていると考えられていたからです。さらに、これは神の呪いであると理解されて、皆に忌み嫌われたようです。そのため、重い皮膚病は、通常のように癒されるのではなく、清められる事を求められました。

皆さん、当時の人が重い皮膚病によって、どれだけ苦しんだか想像できますか。愛する人から離れて全てを失い、失望のどん底の中で彼らは亡くなっていったのではないかと思います。

私は今日の福音を読んでいると、8年前に私が大学院で論文を書いていた時の事を思い出しました。その時、私はインドネシアのフローレス・マウメレでエイズ(HIV/AIDS)患者と一緒に1年ぐらい過ごしました。彼らは、公の生活から排除されて、大きな精神的苦痛と共に生きていました。ある人は、彼らを生きている死体に例えました。肉体的には生きているが社会生活では死んでいると考えられていたからです。問題はエイズ患者達が私達と同じ人間ではない、と思われていた事です。私は彼らの悲しみや苦しみ、そして絶望感を理解しようとしましたが、自分の無力さを心の底から感じました。その時の私には手を差し伸べて助けることと、祈ることしかできなかったことを覚えています。この経験の全ては、今の自分にとってとても役に立っています。

皆さん、イエス様は絶望している皮膚病患者を拒絶せず、代わりに、深く憐れんで患者に触れました。重い皮膚病患者が「御心ならば、私を清くすることがおできになります」と願うと、イエス様は手を差し伸べてその人に触れ「よろしい。清くなれ」と仰いました。すぐに皮膚病は治り、その人は喜びました。これは、どんな状況であれ、イエス様が私達をとても愛し、助けてくださる事を意味しています。

この福音から学ぶことは二つあると思います。まず、私達が謙虚に救いを求めると、イエス様は必ず救いの手を差し伸べてくださる事を、信じる事です。もう一つは、私達もイエス様のように、思いやりの心を持って、私達の助けを求める人の声を聞いて寄り添う事です。なぜなら、私達は血のつながりはなくても、共に兄弟姉妹だからです。世界中で今戦争、災害が起こるたびに救いを求める人たちが増え続けています。今こそ、人との関わり合いが困難な中で、助け合うことが必要です。

ところで、先週の月曜日、東京では大雪が降ったようです。大雪の写真や動画を見て、吉祥寺のことを懐かしく思いました。そして私は幸せな気分になりました。皆さん、日本は冬真っ盛りで寒さが続きますが、今週もお元気にお過ごしください。

My dear brother or sister. Today's gospel talks about Jesus cleansing a leper. At that time, if anyone had a serious skin disease, they would be ostracised by their family and society. The fear of being infected by leprosy was natural. Moreover, leprosy was considered unclean according to the Law of Moses. This resulted in many people rejecting the presence of people suffering from leprosy. It seemed to be considered a curse from God and hated by all. Therefore, serious skin diseases were not cured as usual, but rather needed to be cleansed.

Imagine how many people at that time suffered from severe skin diseases? Many of them likely died in deep disappointment due to the negative stigmatization from society. They also lost everything and were separated from their loved ones.

As I read today's Gospel, I remembered what happened eight years ago when I was writing my thesis in Ledalero. At that time, I spent every Saturday for one year with people who had HIV/AIDS in Flores, Maumere, Indonesia. They were ostracised from public life and lived with tremendous mental anguish. Some people compare them to the living dead. Because they are considered physically alive but socially dead. People with HIV/AIDS are not considered human like us. I tried to understand their grief, pain, and despair, but deep down I felt my own helplessness. At that time all I could do was reach out and help and pray. All these experiences are very useful to me now.

My dear brothers, Jesus did not reject the man with the skin disease. Instead, He had great compassion and touched the leper. When the leper prayed, ``If you are willing, you can make me clean,'' Jesus reached out and touched him, saying, ``Okay. I will, be cleansed.'' Immediately his skin disease was cured and the man was happy. This means that no matter what the situation is, Jesus loves us very much and will help us.

I think there are two things we can learn from this gospel. Firstly, we should believe that if we humbly ask for salvation, Jesus will definitely extend a helping hand. The other thing is that, like Jesus, we should have compassion, listen to the voices of those who need our help, and always be there for them. Because even though we are not related by blood, we are brothers and sisters. Whenever there is a war or disaster around the world, the number of people seeking help keeps increasing. Now is when we need to help each other when it is difficult to interact with others.

By the way, it snowed heavily in Tokyo last Monday. When I look at photos and videos of heavy snowfall, I feel nostalgic for Kichijoji. And I feel quite happy. Everyone, It is currently the peak of winter in Japan, but I hope everyone is also staying healthy this week.
