良い羊として生きる-LIVE LIKE A GOOD SHEEP

 「良い羊として生きる」

ヨハネ10.11-18

皆さん、4月に入り日本は春の季節に入りましたね。皆さんはお花見をしましたか？お元気でお過ごしでしょうか？私は元気で毎日勉強に励んでいます。面白いことに、私の英語の先生であるトムは大阪に10年間住んでいました。時々、授業中に彼と日本語で話すことがあります。そんな時、私は日本語で話しながらとても嬉しくなります。春になると井の頭公園の桜や荒田神父様と私が吉祥寺教会の前に植えた桜の木を思い出します。そして日本食が懐かしくなります。

さて、今日の福音書で人間は羊として描かれ、神様は羊飼いとして描かれています。「私は良い羊飼いである」という表現の中で、イエス様は良い羊飼いは羊のために喜んで犠牲を払う、つまり役に立つと言われました。次に、良い羊飼いというのは、群れから離れた羊を探して、また愛を持って育てるのだと私達に教えくれました。

イエス様は、例え私達が罪を犯したとしても、あるいは、たとえ教会から遠ざかって祈りを怠ったとしても、私達を神の子として、全てを許してくださり、また受け入れてくださいます。それゆえに、私達は神様のご意志に従って、素直に罪を認めて、心を改めて生きるように努力しなければいけないと思います。

私は今学生として、また司祭として日々学んでいます。忙しい中で、時々、自分が従順な羊として生きているのかを問いかけることがあります。自分の与えられたミッションを責任を持って成し遂げる為に、私は神様を信じて今やらなければいけないことを、一生懸命にやろうと思います。

私がメルボルンに来て、ほぼ一年ぐらいになりますが私達はいつも祈りの中で会うことができます。どうぞ、皆さんお元気にお過ごしください。

LIVE LIKE A GOOD SHEEP

Hi everyone, since April it has been spring in Japan and autumn in Australia. How are you doing? Have you all gone to see the cherry blossoms? When spring comes, I think of the cherry blossoms in Inokashira Park and the cherry tree that Fr. Arata and I planted in front of Kichijoji Church. I am also doing well in Melbourne. Interestingly, my English teacher Tom lived in Osaka for 10 years. Sometimes we have conversations in Japanese in class. At times like this, I feel very happy because we can reminisce about Japan.

In today's Gospel, people are described as sheep, and God is described as the shepherd. In the phrase "I am the Good Shepherd", Jesus says that a good shepherd is willing to sacrifice for the sake of his sheep, that is, he wants to help. Secondly, Jesus teaches us that a good shepherd seeks out sheep that have been separated from the flock and nurtures them back with love.

Jesus forgives and accepts us as children of God, even if we commit sins, or even if we distance ourselves from the church and neglect our prayers. Therefore, I believe we should honestly confess our sins and endeavor to live with a new heart according to God's will.

As you know, in Australia, my main task is to study. But as a priest, I also attend prayers, celebrate mass together in the Dorish Maru Community with seminarians, and sometimes celebrate mass with Indonesian Catholics. Often during my busy schedule, I wondered if I was living as an obedient sheep. To complete the mission entrusted to me by the SVD Japan Province, I have a great responsibility. I also submit it all to the guidance of God's loving light. I am sure that only the light of God's love will guide me to be able to carry out all the entrusted missions well.
