 神様の声に耳を傾ける

マタイ17.1-9

皆さん、今日の福音書はイエス様の変容の話についてです。イエス様は１２人の弟子の中からペトロ、ヤコブ、ヨハネの三人を選び、山に登り祈っているところに、旧約聖書の預言者であるモーセとエリヤが現れました。すると、イエス様の顔が変わり、姿はこの世のものではない純白の輝きに包ました。イエス様はモーセとエリヤとご自分の最期の時のことについて語り、その中で、御父の深い愛、そして御父が託された使命を明らかにされました。

三人の弟子達は、イエス様たちの会話を全く理解出来なかったものの、神様の存在を目の前で感じて、畏敬の念で心がいっぱいになりました。そして、御父の「これは私の愛する子、私の心にかなう者。彼に聞け」という声が響きました。弟子達は御父の「彼に聞け」と言われた言葉に恐れながら耳を傾けました。

この出来事からの学びは、イエス様の声と呼びかけを聞くということです。神様と出会う者は新たに使命を与えられます。人間は新たに生まれ変わり、新しい使命と共に、自分の中の心の変化を感じることができるでしょう。それこそが変容です。神様との出会いや神様に与えられた使命を感じることこそが神様の声を聞くと言う意味であると私は思います。

私が司祭になろうと決心した時、祈りと黙想、聖書を読むことで、神様と向き合い、神様の御意志をよく理解出来るように努力しました。そして、私は神様と共に体験して与えられた実り、つまり「喜び」を1人でも多くの人に伝え、分かち合いたいと思って司祭になりました。神様に出会った弟子達も、イエス様の変容を目にして、信仰を固めて、後に来る幸せを信じ、その幸せを多くの人と分かち合いたいと思ったのではないでしょうか。

「イエス様の変容」という出来事は、凄いものを見た、というただの驚きではありません。それは私達が日々の生活の中で神様の声に耳を傾けながら生きていかなければならないという使命の一部であるということです。

慌ただしい日々を生きていく中で、私達はイエス様の声を信じ受け入れることが出来るならば、私達はいつか必ず幸せという恵みへと導かれます。イエス様が変容された様に、私達も毎日微笑みを忘れず、いい顔、いい心で生きていきましょう。

ところで、メルボルンは寒い日がまだ続いています。しかし、皆さんの祈りのおかげで私は元気です。日本は暑いですがお元気でお過ごしください。

LISTENING TO GOD’S VOICE

Mat 17.1-9

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus. Today's gospel is about the story of Jesus' transfiguration.  Jesus chose Peter, James, and John from among the 12 disciples to climb a mountain and pray. At that time, Jesus had a dialogue with Moses and Elijah, the Old Testament prophets. Then Jesus' face changed. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

Although the three disciples couldn't understand Jesus' conversation with Moses and Elijah at all, they sensed the presence of God, and their hearts were filled with awe. A voice came from the cloud, “This is my Son, the beloved, He enjoys my favor. Listen to Him.” Jesus' disciples listened to the voice with anxiety. But Jesus encouraged them by saying, “Do not be afraid”.

The Transfiguration of Jesus today teaches us to dare to listen to God's voice and call. Like Jesus' disciples at that time, everyone who meets God is given new strength and mission. Because everyone will be reborn and will be able to feel a change of heart within them, along with a new mission. I think that's transformation. I believe that meeting and feeling God's presence and carrying out the mission given by God is the true meaning of listening to God's voice and calling in our lives.

When I decided to become a priest, I tried to encounter God and endeavored to understand God's will through prayer, meditation, and reading the Bible. I decided to become a priest because I wanted to convey and share with as many people as possible "the ups and downs of my life" with God. Just like the disciples who met God, saw the transfiguration of Jesus, and listened to God's voice with feelings of anxiety, but Jesus strengthened their faith, so they finally believed in God and shared that happiness with many people.

The story of the "transfiguration of Jesus" is not just about the astonishment of the disciples who saw something unique. It is part of the mission that we should live listening to God's voice in our daily lives. If we can hear and trust God's voice in the midst of our busy lives, we will surely be guided to the gift of happiness one day. Just like Jesus who experienced transfiguration on the mountaintop, and the disciples who smiled after gaining strength from Jesus, don't forget to smile every day and live with a good face and a good heart.
